I can carry on a basic conversation with the workers, I can meet someone new, I can ask them how they are, where they are from, I can shop at some of the local markets here, I can order in a restaurant, It is an excellent program, it is very simple it's very quick you can listen on your way to work, you can listen to it on your lunch hour, they are excellent, excellently constructed and they really give you a working knowledge of the language and I would highly recommend them to anyone else who is going on a trip... or just wants to be able communicate a little bit better. Everybody needs survival phrases when they learn a new language, and we'll come to your rescue in this lesson with a few ways to manage a conversation that is going too fast, or might just be a little too advanced for you in the early days.
Not only that, we'll leave you with a handy compliment that you can use to pay the utmost respect to your Italian host, and get a smile out of them at the same time.

Track 4) At the Cafe [21 min]
This refreshing lesson takes you to the counter to order a sumptuous Italian coffee. But not so fast... you'll have to learn a few things about asking for what you want or need in Italian first!
On the grammatical side, this lesson also shows you how to deal with adjectives and nouns that all come in either masculine or feminine forms!

Track 5) At the Italian Restaurant [22 min]
We really like this lesson, because it is the lesson where we learn all about the phrase "TO LIKE." I ask Alex what he thinks about Roman-style cooking, and after he confirms that he does indeed like it, we make plans to go to a trattoria.

PART 2: Travel
|
Track 6) Getting Around [19 min]
In this lesson, we welcome you to your first experience with public transportation in Italy! But not to fear, you've got an excellent guide, who will show you how to get to the train station in Rome with all your limbs - and all your sanity - fully intact!
You'll also find out how to say "excuse me" in Italian, and we'll introduce you to the common phrase, C'è, for "there is." |

Track 7) At the Train Station [19 min]
After you complete this lesson where we are at the train station, you'll not only be able to buy tickets whenever you need to, but you'll also be able to talk about how much anything costs after we learn how Quanto costa and Quanto costano work.
You'll come away knowing one of my favorite expressions as well, which you can use to say what you "would like," whatever that may be!

Track 8) The Perfect Tourist [28 min]
In this lesson we get to relax in the role of tourist. Alex gets a brochure from the tourist information desk and finds out that he can take photos wherever he wants. Even better, he figures out how to ask where a bathroom is before it's too late!
In the process, you will get all the words for directions straight - so to speak - and come to terms with the sometimes tricky Italian prepositions. |

Track 9) Catching a Taxi [27 min]
This lesson marks a chance meeting between the naive Western tourist (played by Alex) and a stunning Italian fashion designer from Milan (played by Maria). You'll get a first-hand exchange that not only succeeds in breaking the ice, but also a shared taxi fare to the city! |

Track 10) In for the Night [21 min]
Getting tired of all this Italian stuff? How about a rest? In this lesson, you learn how to book the room of your choice. And you find out about words and phrases for all sorts of accommodation options in Italy! In addition, we go over the titles for Mr., Mrs, and Ms., learn how to say "How many?" and the best ways to say "I'm sorry."

PART 3: Nightlife
|
Track 11) Above it All (at Mt. Vesuvius) [19 min]
This is the first lesson in the Interactive Audio Course devoted to Italian Nightlife. It is also one of our favorite lessons, because before we hit the town we take an impromptu trip up one of the most magnificent volcanoes in the world - Mt. Vesuvius! You'll also collect some new words for temperature, and how to say "it looks" and "it seems." |

Track 12) A Taste for Limoncello [18 min]
This lesson marks the beginning of the end for our night time revelry. We have a quick discussion about a popular Italian liqueur, then proceed to test our preferences with several rounds of the stuff. Even if you've never tried limoncello, you'll emerge from this lesson with a mouthful of Italian words to suit any drinking occasion.
On the grammatical side, you find out how to make things "small" in the Italian language, and how to avoid confusion between two extremely short but extremely similar words.

Track 13) At the Night Club [28 min]
After fueling our desire to do some dancing, we head out to the nightclub, after Maria convinces Alex that it is really not as expensive as he thinks. The words for "night" and "morning," and the expression "Oh my gosh!" also feature prominently.

Track 14) To the Pharmacy [27 min]
After their night out, Alex and Maria discuss the prospect of taking a trip to the pharmacy for a sore stomach and head. Go figure! And if you are bad at making decisions, and need to pick up some phrases of the non-committal kind - such as "Let's wait" or "Maybe later," then this is the lesson for you!

Track 15) At the Market [22 min]
Today is Market Day in Rocket Italian land, when you get to explore the endless bounty of items on offer - and learn all the words for them in Italian. You'll also learn how to use the words for WHY and BECAUSE... Why? Because...

PART 4: Arts and Culture

Track 16) Sporting Conversation [29 min]
Talking about sports is a great way to make friends in a different country, and soccer - il calcio - is easily the hottest topic in Italian sport. You find out how to talk about your history and childhood by way of Maria's memories of her own soccer playing experience. Along with a gentle introduction to a new form of the "to be" verb that allows us to talk about the past.
You'll also come away with a newfound ability to use words for possession, so, just like Alex, you too will be able to talk about YOUR passions!

Track 17) Reading Dante [26 min]
Dante is not only one of the great staples of Italian literature, but also the source of much of the standard Italian language itself. And that's why we included a whole lesson on the topic.
You'll add a couple more expressions to your conversational arsenal that you're sure to use on a regular basis, and gain a clear understanding of verbs that express continuing action (the ones ending in -ING).

Track 18) Visiting Florence [32 min]
You can't go to Italy and not visit the heart of its culture and art - and as we tour Florence, you will get to use that flexible verb for "to do" - fare - in yet more flexible ways. You'll enjoy this trip back to the time of the Italian Renaissance as you propel your Italian language learning forward...

Alex and Maria make plans to go to one of the most popular Italian operas on the planet, and you learn how to talk about what you do and don't remember, when something is "necessary" to do, and some great expressions to show your enthusiasm - even if you find you simply can't be enthusiastic about the opera! |

Track 20) In the Countryside [24 min]
This final lesson in the arts and culture section is a jaunt in the open country. You get to inhale the crisp clean Tuscan air, and exhale all sorts of Italian words - including those relating to what you should always be sure to bring. |
PART 5: Family and Friends

Track 21) A Domestic Event [24 min]
In this first lesson of Part 5 on "family and friends," you join Alex for a tour of Maria's apartment in Rome, and learn a few simple and straightforward commands, along with an inventory of words for rooms in a house. |

Track 22) At the Dinner Table [23 min]
Does the prospect of having dinner at the house of an Italian host make you a little nervous? Fear not. In this lesson, you'll learn everything you need to know about exactly what to say before, during, and after a meal. Plus you get more on the construction of the verb piacere - "to like."

Track 23) Relationship Advice [32 min]
In this lesson, Maria shows Alex that he can lean on her, when he needs some relationship advice in particular. Meanwhile, you learn how to deal with commands that tell someone NOT to do something, how to use the phrase for "to think about," and some key vocabulary words when it comes to men and women.

In this lesson poor Alex is struck with an acute bout of homesickness but you emerge with a whole family of new words, along with some simple sentences that you can use in conversation to lighten the mood at just the right time!

Maria has ambitious cooking plans, but before she cooks up a storm, she'll need buy all the ingredients at the grocery store. You'll learn how to put a full Italian menu together, not only with all Italian ingredients, but also all Italian words!

Join Alex and Maria in the kitchen, as they walk through the process of cooking lasagne al pesto to perfection.
